About the Area

Huntington, West Virginia (the home of Marshall University) is located in the heart of the Tri-State region of 300,000 Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia citizens on the Ohio River. Nestled in the rolling hills of the western part of the state, Huntington affords ample opportunities and beautiful natural splendor for its citizens. Each season offers its own unique beauty to the area whether it's the copious blooms of spring, the smell of mountains and greenery in the air or the warmth of the beautiful sun on a summer day, the multi-colored autumn leaves that paint the panoramic fall landscape and the soft, white blanket of winter snow. Recreational activities are as varied as the seasons. Boating, swimming, jet skiing, hiking, and camping in the summer to snow skiing, sledding and ice skating in the winter are all within close proximity to the city. Many cultural resources are available including the Huntington Symphony Orchestra and the Huntington Museum of Art. There are Picnic with the Pops on the banks of the Ohio River in June and outdoor productions by HOT (Huntington Outdoor Theater) in the amphitheater in Ritter Park in July. Marshall's Artist Series also has excellent offerings each season. Excellent public and parochial schools enhance the city's beautiful residential areas.
